The project aims to initiate the implementation of the approved Action Plan for Little Owl (Athene noctua) in the Czech Republic and to fulfill its medium-term objectives, i.e., to reverse the declining trend in the Czech Republic.
The project directly implements the measures identified as necessary in the Action Plan for Little Owl, which will ultimately ensure the long-term survival of a viable population of the species in the Czech Republic.
Planned outcomes:
- Annual security of nesting sites for all pairs and removal of anthropogenic traps
- Increased food supply through 5 ha of verification management on arable land per year
- Reduction of road mortality through roadside management
- 50 new safe nesting sites in priority areas
- Analysis of anthropogenic trap reduction in building regulations
- Sociological survey of arguments used to reduce pesticides in the landscape
- Detailed mapping of the occurrence in the Uherské Hradiště and Kroměříž region
- Development of an environmental suitability index
- Evaluation of the use of different types of microhabitats by the Little Owl
- Continuous monitoring of the genetic variability of the remnant population
- Public education according to the communication plan
